Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants greet patients in medical offices or other medical settings where they help doctors with examinations and treatments. They run routine lab tests such as urinalysis and take vital signs and run EKGs. They may give injections or perform ‘finger sticks’ to draw small amounts of blood if they are properly trained. Assistants may instruct patients about medication and self-treatment. High School Diploma or GED required. All students must pass an English and Math proficiency test. To receive program certification students must complete all classes within a 2-year time frame.

All courses offer a full range of opportunities in preparation for the CCMA or RMA exam.

Instructor: Cheryl McQueen

Cheryl McQueen is a Medical Assistant with over 6 years of experience as a medical assistant and more than 20 years of experience as an educator. She earned her Medical Assistant diploma from National Education Center-Bryman Campus in Gardena, CA, and her BS in Healthcare Administration from University of Phoenix (San Bernardino, CA campus) in 2010. As a medical assistant, Cheryl worked in dermatology, family practice, and OB/GYN. As an educator, Cheryl has worked all over the Inland Empire and is very happy to be in Orange County. Cheryl is currently attending classes at University of San Diego. She has a great passion for education, her students, and her coworkers.

  Students must start their training in Medical Terminology or be enrolled concurrently with another course within the program.
  Students are required to purchase scrubs.
  Scrub cost: approximately $26 per set.
